It’s Effing Labour Day!

The Riley Times will be accelerating this fall and we are hoping you will come along with us. Of course we need readers and sharers but we also need writers. If you have written something you would like to see on our website, please send it in. This one comes from an anonymous mill worker right here in BC. It’s a little rude and maybe a bit colourful but the sentiment is great! Thanks anonymous!

It’s ****ing Labour Day!

Yo Yo, Sup’ hey!
Its labour day!
Every Monday my alarm clock fills me with hate!
I use the snooze button to try ‘n avoid Fate.
I roll out from the covers, away from my bed.
A hangover still lingering, I feel pain in my head.
But its not happening today, listen what I say,
Its ****ing Labour Day!
This day belongs to the working classes,
Construction workers busting their asses.
All the waitressess in all of the diners,
the office clerks and the underground miners.
If you ask me, one days not enough.
Lets fight for labour week, even if its tough.
The ones at the top can afford to pay!
We work, we do what they say, but not today,
Cause its ****ing Labour Day.
Heres to the folks that fought for this right.
The union activists that stepped up to fight.
The shop stewards who gave up their time,
defending our ass when accused of a crime.
The Union President who won’t go away,
We thank you for our pay while were relaxing today,
Cause its ****ing Labour Day.
And if the CEO wont let me go,
he’s a hoe and can kiss my toe.
I’ll lay low and watch a show.
Extra mile to go? Just say no!
If i must be here today, I’ll get double pay
And they best not delay,
Cause its ****ing Labour Day!
Are you ready for more?
I got rymes galore.
Ones about the poor and backs that are sore!
Doing meaningless chores, that we get money for,
makes us no differant than whores….
Thats to ignore! Our jobs we adore,
just hear the uproar as they send them offshore!
We just want some rapport, our work dont ignore.
Equality we implore, before theres civil war.
One more time then I go away,
Its ****ing Labour Day!

Right now we are competing with third world labor and the only winners in this game are the 1% at the top: the corporations and the billionaires. Social media has made the world a tiny flat place with no borders. We need to take advantage of this to end the competition and join together regardless of race, religion or geographical location. Our differences make us awesome and our unified voice will destroy inequality. The name “Riley” means valiant and courageous, it came from a Viking war hero who gave his life fighting for his community. The Riley Times will be the platform that connects us all together with security and democracy to protect our environment and employment. All of this is much easier said in one short phrase, there is “SAFETY n NUMBERS”.
